Message from the Artistic Director

Jenni FlemmingThe fourth Australian Piano Duo Festival promises to be a stimulating and exciting Festival in 2018, rich in repertoire from all periods, highlighting interstate guests Daniel Herskovitch, Clemens Leske, Sonya Lifschitz, and Suzanna Hlinka, and inter-generational collaboration.

The launch concert held at St Peter’s Lutheran College on August 24th, brings together a number of our brightest young pianists, our “Shining Stars” with Festival founding members, pianists Brachi Tilles, Anna Grinberg, Angela Turner and myself. The very heart-warming story of Babar the Little Elephant, music by Poulenc, will feature in this fund-raising launch. The concert will also feature music by Mozart and Debussy, who wrote so well for the genre.

The 2018 festival presents four exciting and diverse concerts at the Queensland Conservatorium Ian Hanger Recital Hall, from October 31 - November 3 and concludes with a lunchtime recital in the Ithaca Auditorium, Brisbane City Hall on November 6th.

The opening concert on October 31st features an elegant work by Schumann for two pianos, two celli and horn. Concert 2 for two pianos and percussion features works by Bartok and Reich. Concert 3 celebrates our home-grown composers in an all-Australian concert. The Finale again a fabulous potpourri of two piano music including improvisation, the most talented of our young players and all the guests together to celebrate another wonderful Festival.

I express my gratitude to Queensland Conservatorium Griffith University, the major sponsor for the 2018 Festival, St Peter's College and Radio 4MBS for their generous support, and also to sponsors for the previous Festivals listed in this section of the website.

I’m thrilled to once again stage this Festival and invite you to join us for the fun and wonderful music making.
